Embryo Freezing

Embryo Freezing - Birmingham fertility Centre

Cryopreservation, also known as “embryo freezing,” involves storing embryos at a very low temperature so that they can be thawed and used later. We will offer embryo cryopreservaton if there are spare top quality embryos on the day of your embryo transfer.

This gives you an additional chance of achieving a pregnancy if your fresh cycle fails, or for a sibling pregnancy. The embryos an be stored for ten years in the first instance. The survival rate after thawing often depends on the quality of the embryos at the time of freezing.  The pregnancy rates following frozen embryo transfers is lower than a fresh transfer but is improving in recent years, particularly with blastocyst or day 5 embryo transfers.
